Provide basic information about yourself, including your degree, licenses or certificates, educational history, mailing address, hourly rate, etc.
Choose subjects that you'd like to tutor.
Create a profile that appeals to students. It's important to upload a photo of you, create an eye-catching headline, and craft some paragrahs that provide information about your expertise and experience.
Read and agree to our Independent Tutor Agreement.
Now you are done! Just wait to hear back from us. We will review your application then will schedule an online interview if you are qualified. If you are selected after the interview, you will receive an approval email and your profile will become active on our website for students to book!
What is the recruiting process like?

What if I didn't get any response after I submit my application?
If you don't hear from us within 5 working days, it's likely that you are not selected to move forward. In rare circumstances, your application might get lost. To follow up with your application, please contact us at boluoschool@gmail.com and include your email address, application date, and your resume.
How does the interview work?
Interview usually takes about 30 minutes. We ask questions about your tutoring experience, then we ask you to make a 10-minute demo lesson for us. When you prepare this demo lesson, think interviewers as your students whom you will teach. We will give you feedback after your demo class.
What are the trial lessons?
We find trial lesson is a great way to engage students when they look for their tutors. We also find students are more likely to commit in a long term relationship with their tutors if they find a tutor matches with their learning style. So it is very important for you and new students to do a trial lesson. In your trial lesson, besides demonstrating your teaching style, you also want to assess your student’s English level, find out their learning objectives and get a sense of their learning preference, which can help you to design customized lesson plans for them. You might be observed by Boluo team in your trial lesson. We will provide tips and feedback to help you to improve your teaching with students. You can provide trial class for free, or with a reduced fee. We suggest your 30-minute trial class should not be charged over $5.
Teaching tools and equipments
Where can I teach from?
You can teach from any country. But we are looking for tutors whose mother tongue is English.
What devices do I need?
1. A computer with a webcam 2. A headset with microphone 3. Stable Internet connection(cable connection required). 4. A mobile phone that can check message often
What's the minimum internet speed required?
The upload speed should be at least 2mb/s. and the download speed should be at least 10mb/s.You can visit www.speedtest.net to run a test.
What tools do I use for teaching?
You can use Skype or Zoom. These are free software for online meetings. We recommend zoom as it is easy to use and has many features for collaboration such as whiteboard, screen share and recording. You can sign up a free zoom account at www.zoom.us. Once you have a zoom account, schedule your zoom meeting and send it to your students. Boluo's teaching process flow
Before class - Send teaching materials to parents if possible
During class - for a 30-minute class, have 25 minutes face to face lesson; 5 minutes to wrap up and write feedback
After class - Send feedback to parents within a day of your class
Do I need to do any lesson plans?
Yes, a structured curriculum benefits your relationship with students most. You decide which curriculum to use based on students requirement. We strongly recommend you prepare your lesson and share with students before each class if possible. Boluo School will also provide teaching resources to help you to start.
How many students will I be teaching in a class?
Right now we only do 1-1 private lesson, but once we add group lesson option on our website, you can schedule one to one lesson or small group lesson with 2-4 students.
How do time zones work with online lessons?
When you schedule an online lesson, you should schedule that lesson in your own timezone. Our system will adjust the time at the student's end so it appears in their timezone.
How are my ratings calculated?
Your star rating is an average of the ratings you’ve received for lessons. It’s rounded to the nearest tenth, and is refreshed daily.
Payment
How does the payment work?
You will be paid via paypal after you submit your request for cash in your account.
How much do I get paid?
The payment is based on the number of sessions completed and hourly rate you charge for your lessons.
Will I get a referral bonus if I recommend Boluo to others and they become Boluo teacher as well?
Yes, referring is highly appreciated. The referral reward is 50 USD and will be paid to your payment account after your referral has passed interview and taught for 10 sessions afterwards.
What about tax?
Teachers are responsible for their own taxes.
Time and Scheduling
Can I change my working schedule?
Yes, things happen. Nevertheless, you should be cautious when you make your commitment in the beginning. If you have to change your schedule, please cancel your class in our system and give students at least24 hours notice. Then schedule with student to do a makeup class as soon as possible. If you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours, students may be dissatisfied and leave a negative review. If it happens too many times, students may leave you for another tutor.
